HISTORY
Shumacker, Isch, Jolly, Fitzgerald, Fess & Glasser, MD's. Inc. was
established in July 1973 by Harris B. Shumacker, M.D. Dr.
Shumacker was an international pioneer in cardiovascular surgery and
research. He and Dr. John Isch, along with St.Vincent
Hospital, developed a premier Cardiothoracic and Vascular Center
that has grown into one of the largest most respected practices in
the Midwest.
Cardiovascular Surgical Services was founded
at Methodist Hospital of Indianapolis in 1965 by Dr. Harry Siderys and Dr.
John Pittman. Drs. Siderys and Pittman were also pioneers in
developing new cardio vascular surgical techniques in Indiana. They were the first in the state to perform coronary
artery bypass graft surgery in 1967 and later the first group in the state
to perform heart transplantation in 1982. This was followed by the
first lung transplant and the first heart-lung transplant performed in
Indiana in 1989.
The
Shumacker Isch group merged with Cardiovascular Surgical
Services on January 1, 2001 to form CorVasc MD's, P.C. CorVasc with 18 cardiothoracic surgeons,
2 thoracic surgeons, 1 pediatric cardiothoracic surgeon, 12
vascular surgeons and 2 vascular interventional radiologists is one of the
largest cardiothoracic and vascular surgical practices in the United States.
The merger has continued the evolution and change that are necessary to
maintain state-of-the-art expertise and care that have always been the
hallmark of Shumacker Isch and Cardiovascular Surgical Services.
In 2005, we celebrated the 40th
anniversary of the founding of CorVasc.
